ARCH. CRISTOPHER STONEWALL P. ESPINA, FUAP
|
Cristopher Stonewall P. Espina has over 36 years of active experience in architecture and planning. In his practice with his family firm, Espina, Perez-Espina and Associates, he has undertaken health facility planning for various private hospitals in the Philippines and has delivered lectures in hospital programming, planning and design. He is currently a Professor at the College of Architecture, University of the Philippines, Diliman, where he also served as Dean from 1999-2002. Concurrently, he is a Lecturer in Medical Architecture at the College of Public Health at the University of the Philippines, Manila and the Executive Director of the Professional Development Commission of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP). He is also the Founder and President of the Council of Architectural Researchers and Educators (ARCHCARE), as well as a member of the Union of International Architects Public Health Group (UIA). Arch. Espina has an undergraduate degree from the College of Fine Arts and Architecture, University of San Carlos, Cebu City, a masteral degree from the College of Architecture, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, and units leading to a PhD in Urban Planning and Regional Planning, School of Urban and Regional Planning, University of the Philippines, Diliman. He holds a diplomate in Health Facility Planning from the Medical Architecture Research Unit (MARU), University of North England, U.K.

Prosperidad C. Luis, was a Faculty Member of the University of the Philippines College of Architecture for 30 years until her retirement as Professor in 2007. She served as Dean of the College from 2002-2007. She had developed a program leading to a degree in Master of Architecture with specialization in Healthcare Architecture as one of the offerings of the College. She is a member of the Union of International Architects Public Health Group (UIA-PHG), an international organization of healthcare architecture practitioners and presents a paper in its yearly seminar in different venues all over the world. She is also a member of the Global University Program in Healthcare Architecture (GUPHA), an international organization of healthcare educators and researchers and presents a paper in its seminars. She heads the Specialty Council in Healthcare of the Professional Development Center of the United Architects of the Philippines, the professional organization of architects which she had served as National President in 2000-2002. She is an active practitioner of architecture as the Principal of the firm, Luis and Associates, which has healthcare projects in different parts of the country. She obtained her Bachelor of Science and Master in Architecture degrees from the University of the Philippines, and her Postgraduate Diploma in Health Facilities Planning from the Medical Architecture Research Unit of the University of North London.

ARCH. MA. REBECCA M. PEÑAFIEL, UAP, CESO III

Ma. Rebecca M. Peñafiel served as Director III of the Health Infrastructure Service of the Department of Health, Manila, before becoming Director III of the National Center for Health Facility Development, DOH, Manila, where she prepares and implements annual operations plans, coordinates policy formulation and standards development, and health facilities infrastructure overall project planning, development and implementation. She has attended numerous local and international training and special courses for the World Health Organization, US Department of State, and other agencies and has participated as speaker in numerous conventions of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Philippine Hospital Association, Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers, among others. Arch. Peñafiel is currently an Associate Professor I of the College of Architecture and Fine Arts, University of Santo Tomas, Manila. She is a graduate of the College of Architecture, University of Santo Tomas, Manila, with a MA in Urban Planning, School of Urban and Regional Planning, University of the Philippines, and units leading to a PhD in Human Resource Management, University of Santo Tomas, Manila.

ARCH. MARIA MINNIE O. ABAN, UAP
|
Maria Minnie O. Aban is currently a Development Management Officer III (performing the duties and responsibilities of an Architect IV) for the National Center for Health Facility Development, Infra and Equipment Division, of the Department of Health (DOH), Manila. Her functions include project pre-design, design, space programming, supervision/monitoring of construction, regional site inspection and post-construction investigation of projects. She also conducts user-participation meetings to review proposed standards, prepares standard plans and corresponding technical guidelines for hospital design and planning, including conducting continuing training programs on hospital planning and design, hospital construction supervision, and hospital physical plant maintenance for LGU’s technical personnel and hospital staff. She also assists LGUs in hospital planning, design, building and site assessments, budgetary forecasting, etc. In an advisory capacity, she provides technical support to DOH procurement systems and provides technical assistance to architecture and engineering students conducting research works. She was a professional lecturer at the Bicol University, Architecture Department, and Legazpi City, where she also obtained her bachelor ’s degree in Architecture.

ARCH. ELDA SHINA S. SAMOZA, UAP
|
Elda Shina S. Samoza is a licensed professional and is currently an Associate Architect in the design firm Luis and Associates where she is involved with various projects for healthcare facilities ranging from facilities evaluation, new design, rehabilitation and upgrading. With almost 17 years of experience, she has served as designer, specifications writer and project architect for various private and government hospital projects in the Philippines. She is involved in the preparation of tender documents, assists in bidding activities, pre-design, design and implementation phases of projects. She also participates in audit, end-user interviews, consultative meetings and other activities under data-gathering in preparation for project design work. As a lecturer in the Center for the Designed Environmental Professional, she handles professional practice, building construction, building laws and design teaching modules. Arch. Samoza graduated from the College of Architecture, University of the Philippines, Diliman.

Eric Acuram Guerrero is currently an Architect IV at the National Center for Health Facility Department, Department of Health, Manila. Leonida D. Santos has been in the practice of Architecture for almost 30 years. Her pursuit of excellence within the profession can be seen in her work through dedication to the achievement of innovative and quality planning and design. Her project related expertise is focused on architectural programming, conceptual design, urban planning and design, and project management.
Aside from a post graduate degree in Master of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of the Philippines, she holds a certificate of Special Post Graduate Studies in Urban Management and Finance from the Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies, in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and in Construction Management at the Asian Institute of Management, Makati, Philippines.
Being an active member of professional and service organizations, among others are the United Architects of the Philippines Kadayawan Dabaw Chapter, where she served as treasurer for two (2) terms; Rotary Club of Waling Waling Davao (RCWWD), where she served in various capacities, such as president, vice president and director, Assistant Governor for two (2) terms of RI District 3860, and as Senior Assistant Governor for Administration in Mindanao for RY 2007-08.
She also serves as treasurer of two (2) service institutions – Boystown Davao (Welfare Action Foundation of Davao) and the Mindanao Science and Technology Centrum Foundation, the former providing assistance to the less privileged youth in the community, while the later augmenting the math and science education for grade school and high school students and teachers. She is also the corporate secretary of the Light A Heart Foundation, which manages funds for RCWWDs service projects.

ARCH. CLARISSA L. AVENDAÑO |
Clarissa L. Avendaño is an architect involved in the academe as an Associate Professor in the College of Architecture, University of Santo Tomas, where she is also the Assistant Director of University of Santo Tomas Museum of Arts and Sciences. As a member of the faculty, she handles architectural courses on History of Architecture, Theories of Architecture, Building Utilities, Building Technology, Research Methodoloy, Professional Practice and Design. As assistant director of the UST Museum of Arts and Sciences, she is responsible for the collection and conservation of the cultural heritage of the UST, and gives lectures as resource speaker, among others. She served as Assistant Secretary from 2002-2004 for the Committee of Monuments and Sites of the NCCA, and is currently Deputy Executive Director of the UAP Center for Filipino Architecture. She holds both a BS Architecture undergraduate degree from the College of Architecture and Fine Arts and an MS Architecture from the Graduate School of the University of Santo Tomas.

Willa R. Solomon is currently an Associate Professor I at the University of Santo Tomas College of Architecture and Fine Arts where she teaches Architectural Design and other major subjects. Willa is a multi-awarded architect who is also deeply involved in various community outreach and extension services activities in UST and in other communities. She has designed offices, residences, interiors, retreat houses, chapels and other projects in her private practice. She holds both a BS Architecture undergraduate degree from the College of Architecture and Fine Arts and an MS Architecture from the Graduate School of the University of Santo Tomas.

ARCH. DIVINA B. SONIDO, UAP
|
Divina B. Sonido is a Regional Civil Engineer of the Department of Health – Center for Health Development for Davao Region, Davao City, where she prepares, evaluates, and review project proposals, plans/drawings, technical specifications and cost estimates for various health infrastructure projects, which involve hospital building facilities and utilities, hospital water supply and waste water treatment facilities, community-based water supply system, and community-based communal toilet facilities. She supervises and monitors the implementation of construction, upgrading, renovation, and repair of health infrastructure projects, and prepares master site development plan and other initial site environmental studies for health infrastructure projects. She is also a trainor of the Health Care Waste Management, and a member of the Health Facility Plan Review Committee, and the Health Facility Inspection and Monitoring Team. Engr. Sonido holds a BS Civil Engineering from the University of Mindanao, Davao City, and an MBA from the Ateneo de Davao University, Davao City.

ARCH. NADY S. NACARIO, UAP |
Nady S. Nacario is an Associate Professor in the University of Santo Tomas, where she teaches laboratory and lecture subjects in Photography, Advertising Design, and Advertising Practice. She serves as an Art/Design Consultant for various departments in the UST, and as an Art Consultant/Designer for the UST Museum of Arts and Sciences, she plans and designs special/thematic exhibitions, sets up exhibits of museum collections, designs posters, invitation and other information material for the museum. She is also an adviser of the Advertising Photographers in Focus – College Photography Club, College of Architecture and Fine Arts, UST. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, major in Advertising Arts, and is a candidate for Masters in Cultural Heritage Studies, University of Santo Tomas, Manila.
